Game Day: Senators @ Canadiens - Another Shot Of Puempel |
|
|
|
The Senators will play their 3rd game of the preseason tonight, heading down the 417 to play the Habs in Montreal.
The Sens seem committed to giving forward Matt Puempel the opportunity to seize a roster spot, preferably in a scoring role. He hasn't exactly set the world on fire in the first two opportunities, and as a result his chances might be dwindling, at least to start the season.
Puempel will be joined up front by the likes of Kyle Turris, Bobby Ryan, Derick Brassard, Mike Hoffman and J-G Pageau, along with 4 point scorer from Monday, Phil Varone.
The blue line will feature Cody Ceci as the lone sure thing to crack the opening night lineup, and he will be joined by 5 of the 6 hopefuls on the travel roster including Thomas Chabot, Mark Borowiecki, Chris Wideman, Freddie Claesson, Mike Kostka and Matt Bartkowski.
It is also a little curious that Craig Anderson has yet to see any action in this pre-season, with Andrew Hammond getting the start in Halifax and Buffalo. The plan was for him to go to Buffalo, but he missed that one due to a "personal issue". That trend will continue tonight, with Anderson absent, and the duo between the pipes will be Matt O'Connor and Chris Driedger.
I think the Senators will be looking to put a bit more solid performance together this time around than they did in Buffalo, and perhaps capitalizing on their opportunities around the net with more consistency.
It will be a chance for those on the bubble to prove they belong before the camps split into Bingo and main camp. The "Binghamton Senators" are set to take on the Ottawa U Gee Gees on Friday night.
The Senators have returned Logan Brown, Filip Chlapik and Maxime Lajoie to their Junior clubs.
