Game Day: Senators @ Avalanche

With a perfect 2 for 2 on this current road trip where success was expected, the Senators have a good opportunity to make it 3 for 3 in the mile high city tonight when they face the Avalanche.

Ottawa downed the Avalanche 2-1 at home to open up the month, and that win started the current five game winning streak that is the second longest active streak in the league.

If they are going to win this one, they may have to do it without Mark Stone. Already minus top 6 forwards Kyle Turris and Bobby Ryan, Stone was dinged up against the Coyotes and Phil Varone was called up as insurance against him being able to play.

Hopefully getting a rest in this one will allow Stone 5 days to recover ahead of the grind that opens up starting with Tampa on Tuesday.

Colorado still sits far in the basement of the league, 13 points back of the Coyotes, and really have nothing to play for but their jobs for the future. That being said, they have not given up and have actually won their last two games, at home over Carolina and New Jersey.

While the Senators have a 2-0 record on this trip, they aren't playing at a level where they need to be next week or for the rest of the month, because after tonight things get significantly tougher and more competitive for the rest of the month and into April.
