Another Coach Fired, Sens Get Permission To Speak With Boudreau

Bob Hartley got the axe from the Flames this morning, which was a bit of a surprise, at least to me. Considering they have been finished for almost a month, the decision comes a bit late.

I have never been a big fan of Hartley as a coach and although his name will be added to the list of potential coaches, that is one I would take a pass on as I think the Senators will.

However, as expected the Senators sought and received permission to interview former Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau, the man who has to be considered the current favorite for the job.

The Flames opening makes it now 3 jobs available for those in consideration, as the same names will likely be added to the lists of Anaheim and Calgary (except for those who were fired from those respective jobs of course).

It also means that the most sought after coaches will have their pick of jobs as well, and can look for the team that fits them the best. If the Senators and Flames, for instance, both like Boudreau the best, is one of the jobs any better than the other?

We knew this stage was coming, and there may be more jobs and more names available as the playoffs wind down. The game of musical chairs is just beginning, as is the competition for the best names.
