The Rangers begin play in the Traverse City Tournament on September 16. For those jonesing for hockey and looking for an early view of some of the team's prospects, this is a perfect chance to fill both needs. While it will not be shown on MSG, the tournament will be streamed live online.

Here is the full list of attendees:

The list of players who I want to see is below:

Forwards: Pavel Buchnevich, Tim Gettinger, Ryan Gropp, Robin Kovacs, Brad Morrison, Boo Nieves, Ty Ronning, Malte Stromwall and Jimmy Vesey.

(the list shouldn't surprise anyone. Big things are expected of Buchnevich, who gets to test his skills on a smaller ice surface. Gettinger and Ronning were draft picks this year and really hoping I a bit of his dad, Cliff, in Ty's game. Gropp, Kovacs and Morrison were 2015 picks, each of whom showed last year the upside may of us hoped for when they were selected, and Kovacs coach in the Swedish League was extremely complimentary of his play. The same was said by the coach on Stromwall, who is a sleeper for several of us this season and a strong showing could lead to bigger things in camp. Nieves is progressing steadily and by all rights, should probably dominate in the tourney building on his growth at Michigan. Clearly next to Buch, the big name is Vesey. With a solid tourney, he could build a steady base heading into camp in his attempt to open 2016 in the top-nine)

Defense: Calle Andersson, Sean Day, John Gilmour and Sergey Zborovskiy

(Andersson could be close to ready after being over in the US for a while. Day needs work on decision making and defensive play in his zone, so the tourney should be an excellent test for him. Gilmour was just signed as a college free agent and brings the pedigree of an offensive d-man. Zborovskiy, who probably was more of a surprise selection than even Morrison last year. is back for a second year and we will see if his game has progressed).

Goalies: Brandon Halverson

(Halverson attended last year's tourney but didn't play due to injury. He is participating in his third straight tournament and it will be interesting to see his growth or regression from year to year)

The Rangers are in the Ted Lindsay division and the tournament runs from Friday 9/16 to Tuesday 9/20:

9/16: 4:00PM against Carolina
9/17: 3:30PM against Dallas
9/19: 3:00PM against Minnesota
9/20 Championship/Consolation Games against Gordie Howe Division

Right now, it's unclear if the games will be streamed or televised. Hopefully that will be the case, since many of the names are ones that could be in NY this season, especially to start the year. Between this and the World Championships, we will be able to sate our hockey hunger.

New York’s roster features 25 prospects (15 forwards, eight defensemen, and two goaltenders), including three of the team’s selections in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft: Sean Day, Tim Gettinger, and Ty Ronning. The roster also includes 2016 Hobey Baker Award winner Jimmy Vesey, who signed with the Rangers as a free agent on August 19, 2016, as well as forward Pavel Buchnevich, who will be participating in the Traverse City Tournament for the first time.
