As reported by Steve Zipay, the Rangers tendered the following qualifying offers to their restricted free agents (contracts to follow when reported) allowing them to retain negotiating rights:
Brandon Dubinsky ($633,333),
Ryan Callahan ($575,000) and
Corey Potter ($535,000) all earned less than $660,000 last season, so the minimum raise they were due to receive was 10 percent. Look for both Dubinsky and Callahan to get healthy raises and the Rangers should use the saving with
Markus Naslund's retirement to lock them up long-term.
Brian Boyle, obtained Saturday from Los Angeles, earned $750,000 and is due a five percent hike.
Lauri Korpikoski, at $1.017 million, had to be matched.
Not listed, but who reportedly already was tendered a qualifying offer of $3.25 million is
Nikolai Zherdev, who better show a lot more this season or be viewed as another million dollar arm, ten cent player who will be run off by two coaches when Torts gets through with him.
If a player rejects an offer, he becomes a free agent. If another team makes an offer, the Rangers have a right to match.
RFA not tendered:
Joe Barnes,
Dane Byers,
Vladimir Denisov,
Greg Moore Blue Jackets Jersey in the HockeyBuzz Store' href='http://shop.hockeybuzz.com/columbus-blue-jackets.php'>
Greg Moore,
Fredrik Sjostrom (role to be filled by Boyle and
Artem Anisimov but who may be missed on the penalty kill), and
Matt Zaba.
UFA not signed:
Nik Antropov (contract demands of $4-5 million made him too pricey),
Mark Bell,
Blair Betts (replaced by Boyle and another player who may be missed on the penalty kill),
Paul Mara and
Derek Morris (one of them could return, like Mara did last year, depending on what happens with Redden and Roszival as well as in free agency and if determination is made that one more veteran d-man is needed),
Colton Orr (if Boyle can't handle the role, may rue this day when Rangers are getting physically abused in games) and
Pierre Parenteau.
