Update at 4:50 PM - Per Kevin Allen of USA Today: Higgins to the Rangers for
Scott Gomez. Must be clearing salary and does this mean Dubie goes in a deal for Heatley or they are making a run at Gaborik?
With the deadline rapidly approaching for the Senators to trade
Dany Heatley to avoid paying a $4 million roster bonus, rumors in the New York papers and their respective blogs indicate that the team may be prepping an offer. Ottawa GM Bryan Murray still insists that he will keep Heatley unless he gets the offer he wants, but why keep someone who clearly doesn't want to be there and who you don't want there as well. The Rangers need to desperately find a sniper and there are several players possibly in the mix and permutations of the deal that could happen.
Some of the names mentioned back to Ottawa are:
Brandon Dubinsky (as the Rangers seem to value
Ryan Callahan more) or
Scott Gomez (for salary cap purposes but does Ottawa need a second line center making that much money and who would get the puck to Heater. Gomez would potentially be part of the deal rather than
Chris Drury as Drury has a no-movement clause and likely won't waive it) and Michal Roszival (viewed as expendable due to salary, young d-man in Rangers system and who may now be attractive as his salary could now be considered managable given the marketplace this year). Other possibles are Nik Zherdev (major talent but how would his indifferent play go over with Cory Clousten given that he apparently has already worn out his welcome with Torts) a first round pick next year in a weak draft and a prospect. Other teams interested include the Oilers, and as Ek mentioned, maybe Dallas and Atlanta.
What's your view? Who would you trade? Do you want Heatley in New York and what is the max offer you would give for him?
Pierre LeBrun reports in his blog today that two sources told ESPN.com that Nikolai Antropov's agent Mark Gandler asked the Rangers for five years at $5.25 million a year. All I can say to that is: McFly, anyone home?
Lastly, Steve Zipay reports today, which will make all Rangers' fans happy and has been mentioned on the blog, that the team has qualified
Dane Byers as well as
Greg Moore Blue Jackets Jersey in the HockeyBuzz Store' href='http://shop.hockeybuzz.com/columbus-blue-jackets.php'>
Greg Moore. Maybe that info to the league was like the Lou Lamoriello faxes that show up after 3pm on trade deadline day?
