Ovechkin Moves Farther Up the All-Time Scoring List

The Capitals survived a first period beat-down to beat the Minnesota Wild in a game that would have made Ol' Margie proud. (Fargo!)

The funny thing about the Capitals is that as good Braden Holtby has played - and he's the team's MVP and should be a Hart or Vezina finalist, at least- Philip Grubaur has played just as well when called upon.

Last night the Wild came out flying and Grubuar shut the door, despite the Wild posting a 67% first period possession rating. Grubaur was awesome, and then the Capitals woke up in the second period, where they dominated as much as the Wild had in the first.

The difference was that the Capitals scored a couple of goals.

I won't bore you with the details, but like usual, when Ovechkin goes off, the Capitals win. Last night was no difference, as they won and got a four point night from the captain.

Ovechkin scored his 34th and added three assists for good measure.

The points give Ovechking 65 points in 57 games. He hasn't averaged more than a point per game since 2014-15. The 34th goal puts him two ahead of Malkin for the league lead. The 57th point puts him one behind McDavid for ninth in the NHL.

Not bad.

With the four points Ovechkin now has 1100 on his career. That passes Glen Anderson 61st all time. Four more points to catch Mahovlich and 14 (and counting) to catch Patrick Marleau.

Also not too bad!
