Galchenyuk: Coyotes, Avalanche and Habs Should do a Three-Way Trade

Threeways are super rare. In the NHL, and, sadly, in life. I have been married and watching hockey for years and I can't remember one ever going down.

But the time has come to cast inhibitions aside, toss your keys in the bowl and swing for the fences. The Coyotes are a team with tons of assets. The Avalanche are team in need of a change and the Canadiens are in win-now mode.

Alex Galchenyuk is the prize and John Chayka should be working to acquire him.

Through four games, he has a 57% CF, but his on ice shooting percentage is zero and he has no points. Despite the fact that he's getting positive results in terms of scoring chances and shot attempts, not even one of the guys he's skated with has potted a lucky one.

This has his coach overreacting and throwing him on the fourth line. Like PK Subban before him, it seems the Canadiens will sacrifice talent to indulge the whimsy of a coach. Even though everyone knows they're going to fire him eventually and replace him with Guy Carboneau.

If the Canadiens don't want the talented young Russian/American, then the Coyotes definitely should.

They have draft picks, they have prospects and they could even entertain trading Dylan Strome. They should send some package to the Avalanche for Duchene and then flip Duchene to the Canadiens for Galchenyuk.

Galchenyuk is 23 and has the talent to be something close to a franchise player. He could come in and be a perfect addition for a team that wants to stay young, but has moved closer to the idea of picking up players to contend now in recent months.

I would personally do everything I could to hold onto Strome, and the Coyotes could probably get a lot for an unprotected draft pick (though protection in this situation, it goes without saying, is usually recommended.)

Galchenyuk seems like the kind of player that gets traded and then suddenly lives up to his potential. The Coyotes would be wise to capitalize on my unquantifiable feelings, or at the very least, explore the idea of picking up a player who could be have for pennies on the dollar.

It seems like you could get Galchenyuk at a good value right now, and so I think the Coyotes should explore it. At the very least he should take Marc Bergiven out for drinks and just sort of casually drop the idea into a conversation and see where it goes.
