Capitals vs Blues: A game preview for the ages

I have been asked to take over the Washington Capitals blog here on the old 'buzz and I look forward to covering one of the league's best teams.

After covering the Coyotes - which will continue - this will definitely be a treat. The Capitals are, along with the Penguins, one of the two best teams in the NHL, and as we move into the season's stretch-run and then the playoffs, this will be really fun.

(Aside: The Penguins and Capitals got me thinking about something interesting: much like the World Series, the NHL's playoff format means that it's highly unlikely that the league's actual two best teams ever meet to play for the Championship.)

I will try to make this an interesting and original Capitals blog - one that goes beyond simple game previews and recaps - but it might take awhile. As a fan of the league in general, I am familiar with the Capitals roster, who their best players are, their record, the quality of their team etc. However, it might take a week or so until I am fully up-to-date on their team history, recent draft picks, prospects etc........which is just me making an excuse for the upcoming game preview:

(read in most boring voice:)

After coming off a delightfully sinful affair against the Penguins Monday night, which ended their nine game winning streak, the Capitals will visit the Blues.

The Blues, losers of four of their last five home games, have filed a missing person's report on goalie Jake Allen and will be starting a rando in a Chewbacca mask (according to unconfirmed reports).

(Switch back to regular reading in the head voice:)

Honestly, I am super happy to be covering the Capitals. The team is awesome, fun to watch, and if you're a hockeybuzz Caps fan hit me up with the kinds of articles and/or topics you want to see, and I'll do my best.

I just want to state - *puts hand on bible (technically it's Catcher in the Rye) - that I will do my best to 100% focus on hockey and not other things that covering a team in the District of Columbia may bring to mind. Also, no one has any Komropat on me, so you can always expect the undiluted truth and know that I will meet the upmost of all journalistic standards. No one has higher journalistic standards than me. No one.

You can read that in any kind of voice that you'd like. It is the tenth anniversary this week of when Ovechkin scored that one goal everyone remembers. I'll leave you with it.

I look forward to watching tonight's game, and until then, adieu.
