Capitals beat Blues in another goal-fest

It was as good a game as could be scripted to kick off my new interest in the Washington Capitals. They scored another seven goals, crippling the confidence of Jake Allen, the ruiner of hockey pools.

I thought I was so smart and crafty to pick Allen where I did, figuring he'd lead my team to victory as the starting goalie on one of the league's best teams.

What an idiot I was. I could have just drafted Peter Budai and cruised to victory.

Anyways, with my wife thrilled about yet another hockey game to watch, we sat down to watch the Blues vs Caps.

Some impressions:

- Holtby is a great goalie. He kept the Caps alive for what was - Jake Allen, and thus the score, aside - not the greatest first period. After that it didn't really matter much.

- Allen is killing me in my hockey pool, this CHL-level sieve has now been pulled in three straight starts. Plus, technically he's been pulled four times in three starts since he was pulled, re-inserted and then pulled again last night. What did his coach think was going to happen? He was going to find his confidence under the bench?

- The Caps won in a blowout, but they only put 18 shots on net and didn't attempt many more. I guess if you're good, you get lucky too.

- That being said, that's two bad games in a row. Excusable, since they're at the top of the league, but still worth pointing out.

- The Caps have scored five goals in five games in a row now. In the low-scoring NHL we have come to know and (I guess) love, that is incredible.

- John Carlson obviously makes a huge difference. (He was out injured).

All in all, a sweet game to take in for my first one. The Caps are incredibly deep team and hopefully they continue to pile up the goals and ignore the defense for at least one more game, because on Saturday they play the fun-to-watch Dallas Stars.
