FHFF Vancouver

Today is the big day Vancouver, get out and support Richard and the crew who will be setting up a hockey game for anyone to come play in. Game starts at noon and goes to till about 6:00pm tonight. They will have the rinks (3 I believe) set up at the 800 block of Granville Street. There will be a VIP game with some local Vancouver celebrities and prizes to give away.

Calgary set the new record a few days ago (roughly 27,000), now it’s up to you Vancouver to better that record. So, get on down there today with a donation to the Food Bank and play a bit of hockey for a good cause. They have the sticks and goalies (although I’m sure they are looking for more if interested). All you need to do is show up and play.

Post your best Five Hole For Food story in the comments section tomorrow and I may be able to pull together a prize or two for the best ones.

Offer Friday Over-Flow

Here are a few of the offers I wasn’t able to get to yesterday. Enjoy

Canuck_fan_in_t.o.
Offer #1:
===========

To Vancouver:
Luongo + Raymond + 2013 3rd Round Pick

To Florida:
Theodore + Versteeg (signed) + Desantis

Reasoning: Vancouver gets a quality backup in Theodore,
a scoring winger in Versteeg, and a depth defensemen
who is playing well in the AHL. Florida gets a #1 goalie,
a fast, scoring winger in Raymond who will have a great
rebound year, and a 3rd round pick to replace Desantis.

My Thoughts- I’m not sure Vancouver needs to put in the 3rd rd pick and I’ve heard that Theodore won’t waive to go to Vancouver (no idea why, but I’m shocked because I figured Florida’s humidity would be hell on his hair and he would asking to be moved out). I’m not familiar with Desantis, but seeing as he was just signed I really can’t see Florida moving him. I see a Clemmensen , Versteeg, and a prospect for Luongo and Raymond.

Offer #2:
===========

To Vancouver:
Mason + Brassard + Madaisky

To Columbus:
Luongo + Raymond + Archibald

Reasoning:
Vancouver get a veteran backup in Mason. It is unlikely
Columbus gives up Bobrovsky after trading for him. Vancouver
also gets a scoring centreman in Brassard, and Madaisky is
a depth defenseman Vancouver needs. Columbus gets a quality
#1 goalie in Luongo who Columbus can build the franchise
around. Columbus also gets speedy Raymond and scoring
prospect Achibald. This is based on Luongo accepting a trade to Columbus to play a #1 role.

My Thoughts- This ones interesting, two players the Jackets don’t really want for two players the Canucks don’t really want. Still, I’m not sure I’d make this deal unless the Jackets would take Ballard as a salary dump as well. Lu>Mason, Raymond> Brassard, and the prospects are a wash. I need the Blue Jackets to do something else for me to make this deal.

BigPetar

To Chi: R. Luongo + M. Raymond + 2013 2nd
To Van: P. Sharp + R. Emery

I know this deal would be hard to accept for some, but it really fixes Chicago's goalie issues, and Vancouver's secondary scoring. Money wise, it’s almost a wash, but the 2nd gets thrown in because of the length of Luongo's contract.

if that doesnt work......

To Cbj: R. Luongo + K. Ballard + D. Booth/M. Raymond + 2013 1st
To Van: R. Nash + S. Bobrovsky

Columbus and Vancouver r stuck with these untradable players......so why not swap them? Both fan bases would be mad if either player was traded, and a superstar was not coming back the other way. Ballard needs to get sent to the CBJ, NYI, or Nash if they lose Weber. These r the only teams looking for D-Men with Ballard’s set of (limited) skills....and Booth and/or Raymond replaces Nash's goals...throw in the first to make Howson happy...Bob backs up Schneids

I know both Luo and Nash would have to change their list of teams, but I’m sure if Lu wants to be a starter, he'd listen. And Nash could add Van to his list very easily.
Luongo is not going to Florida.....there just isn't a deal there
Tor or CBJ need him the most

My Thoughts- I can’t see either of these deals working. I can’t see the Hawks dealing Sharpe for Raymond and Luongo. While it would solve one need for them, it would leave a big hole in their secondary scoring. I see Sharp as their 3rd or 4th most important player and I doubt they would move him. To me, Kane is more likely to be dealt off the Hawks.

The Nash deal is an overpayment in my opinion and I can’t see Bobrovsky getting dealt after they just went out and got him. If the Blue Jackets move a goalie, I believe it will be Mason. For Lu to be a Blue Jacket I think it will be Mason, Tyutin + for Lu. Maybe Raymond or Ballard gets worked in there, but Nash is not coming back in a Luongo deal.

Offer Sheet Targets

Today will be the start of looking at players who it would make some sense for Vancouver to offer sheet. I’ll kick things off with the big guns right off the bat. While Vancouver has only around 3 million in cap room, they do also have a few salaries that are dumpable or at the very least, sent to Chicago. If they offer sheet, they will find room for these guys.

Jamie Benn

Vancouver needs scoring, Benn is the best scorer that you can offer sheet (I think). He’s big, strong and he finishes his hits. He can fill in at centre while Kesler is out and move to the wing once he gets back. While Dallas has shown this offseason that they will spend money and they have the cap room to match, front loading a deal (although it’s really dirty and I still hate doing it) may scare them off. Offer him 5 years, 30 million and structure it so he gets 10 million today and 10 million on July 1st, 2013. A six million dollar hit is a what I consider a reasonable number for a player like Benn and the length is also reasonable. The compensation would be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, balls in your court Dallas.

Evander Kane

Much like Benn, Kane is a player that brings the power game. He has established himself as a star and would give Vancouver the physical presence and scoring in their top 6. When Kesler is healthy a Booth/Kesler/Kane line would be tough to stop. I think he is a 6 million dollar player and would have no problem offering the same deal to him that I offered to Benn. 10 million today, 10 million on July 1st, 2013 and the other 10 million spread out through out the seasons. A six million dollar hit is a what I consider a reasonable number for a player like Kane and the length is also reasonable. The compensation would be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, balls in your court Winnipeg.

John Carlson

I believe that John Carlson is on the brink of being in the Norris conversation. He would bring size to Vancouver’s D and a right-handed shot. The Caps just gave Mike Green 6 million and I would consider Carlson the better of the two. While it would be tough because it may rock the Canucks cap friendly numbers on D and set a higher precedent for Edler, I’d offer him 6 million per over 5 years to get him out of there. Same type of deal as the other two, 10 million today, 10 million on July 1st, 2013, and 2 million each year. A six million dollar hit is a what I consider a reasonable number for a player like Carlson and the length is also reasonable. The compensation would be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, balls in your court Washington.

I said the other day that as long as offer sheets are reasonable in amount and length I’m ok with them. I believe all of these offer sheet would give the teams a chance to match if the wanted to.

That’s a wrap.
