No. I don't think trading the pick makes any sense for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The team that gets the best player in the trade almost always wins and I doubt any player the Jackets get back in a potential trade is better than Jesse Puljujarvi will be during the prime of his career. He is all but a lock to be an excellent two-way forward for a long, long time.

The Blue Jackets are also paying Nick Foligno, Brandon Dubinsky, David Clarkson, Scott Hartnell and Jack Johnson, among others, more money than they are worth.

Having a quality contributor on the roster carrying a cap hit of less than a million for the next three seasons would be very beneficial to them.

Unless the Jackets receive an offer so good they think it'd be a fireable offense to decline, which I doubt happens, they shouldn't even consider trading 3rd overall.

It will have to be for a package that blows them away and with that perhaps taking a bad contract with it. *cough Clarkson Cough*. That's what I would do if I were the GM.

What's the logical process though? Looking at the team, where it is growing, the salary cap and what it can add to be competitive. With the chance to add either Laine or Puljujarvi would the Jackets and their Finnish GM want to lose that chance? Hence the deal would have to be overwhelming and that might be by taking salary back and giving up something very prime like a centre.

To answer the question they should consider it but only to find the deal they want, not one being offered. It's on the Jackets to make that deal happen for them and that could be tough.
