To me the biggest surprise is the Winnipeg Jets trading up to draft Logan Stanley.

I think Stanley would have been there at 22nd overall and, quite frankly, I think he would have been a reach there, too.

Sure, he has the size that entices teams but I worry about his foot speed, edge work and lack of production.

I am lower on Stanley than most but he was my 18th ranked OHL player and the Jets selected him 18th overall.

I just don't see a bright future with Stanley and was surprised a team traded up to get him.

Biggest surprise was the ripple effect of Dubois going 3rd overall. It changed the course for Edmonton to take Puljujarvi and potential set up another Gretzky-Kurri scenario with McDavid.

Had the Oilers know this would unfold do they wish they could have had more time to make a deal? Could they have asked for an extension to contemplate trade options for that eleusive D they need? To me that was the surprise part in that they did not appear to make much effort to make a deal not was much said after.

Anything could happen in coming days before UFA time but that reversal of fortune was easily the most surprising moment.
