There have been quite a few good value signings (Brian Campbell, Patrick Wiercioch, P.A. Parenteau, etc.) but Teddy Purcell might take the cake.

He has put up 40+ points in four of his last five seasons (lockout year aside) including last year when he tallied 43 in 82 games spit between Edmonton and Florida.

On top of his consistent point production Purcell is also good in possession and his teams have historically been better with him on the ice as opposed to without him.

All it took to get him to sign was one-year and $1.6 million. At that price I think he'll be a steal for the Los Angeles Kings.

Peter Tessier

One I like is hardly a glamorous signing or player but Carolina taking on Lee Stempniak for two years is a great depth move. It plays right into the smart moves Carolina is making under Francis with help from Eric Tulsky.

The other one is the Demers to Florida deal- good AAV and term and a solid player that also will solidify the blue line on a team looking to challenge their neighbours to the north.

Finally I'm intrigued about Eric Staal to the Wild for 3.5 million. It could be fantastic value for the Wild if Staal can bounce back in a new situation.

James Tanner

I think the best value deal so far is Demers for under $5 million. He's pretty clearly a bargain at this price point, because he's basically elite in everything but point production and only 28.

Demers is right handed, will play behind Yandle on the second pairing and the Panthers now are in the argument for best defensive group in the NHL after the Predators.

John Jaeckel

I think its hard to beat the "value" of the Brian Campbell signing in Chicago. Campbell's 2015-16 numbers show he's still a pretty competent blue liner, capable of playing big minutes against quality forwards. $1.5-$2 million for one year for a player of his caliber is a steal.
