In this edition of the hotstove, we share our thoughts on the biggest key to deciding the Stanley Cup winner, be it an individual, a matchup, special teams, etc.

The matchup I'm really zeroing in on is Dmitry Orlov and Matt Niskanen vs Vegas' top line.

In the 1st round, they saw more of Artemi Panarin than any other player. In the 2nd round, they saw more of Sidney Crosby than any other player. In the 3rd round, they saw more of Nikita Kucherov than any other player.

And yet the Caps have controlled 53% of the attempts, 57% of the chances and 55% of the goals at 5v5 with that duo on the ice. They've played extremely difficult minutes and handled themselves admirably.

If they have another strong series and can slow down the Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson, Reilly Smith trio, the Caps should have an excellent chance of winning the series.

Peter Tessier

Give me an ‘F’ Give me an ‘L’ give me an ‘E’ you know where this goes. Of course it’s all about Fleury and 2-3 guys have career years getting wild ass luck.

Of course the Capitals have to do some things to win the series but the biggest obstacle in front of them and be determining factor of this series is the crazy PDO run the Golden Knights are on.
