Detroit Too Far For Vesey

Jimmy Vesey and Dylan Larkin will not be teammates in Detroit for the foreseeable future. The former USNTD teammates will have to wait several years before they can play on the same NHL team together.

MLive.com is reporting that the Detroit Red Wings made a presentation to Harvard stadium turned UFA Jimmy Vesey. However, the Wings did not make the cut of serious contending teams vying for Vesey.

Like many NHL team, the Wings are in need of a top six forward. They took their shot a Vesey but it hit the glass. Losing future Hall Of Famer Pavel Datsyuk to the KHL will put a huge crimp in Detroit's offense in 2016-17. Adding Vesey's offensive production potential would have cushioned the blow of the loss of Datsyuk.

"We did our best," Red Wings AGM Ryan Martin said.

"We spoke to his agent about depth and opportunity. He said he preferred to play closer to home."

Closer to home, eh? Very interesting.

Chicago is further away from Boston than Detroit is.

Vesey's short list consists of Buffalo, Chicago, New Jersey, New York Rangers, and Pittsburgh.

According to Mark Divver of The Providence Journal, Camp Vesey will meet today with the NY Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New Jersey Devils. The Toronto Maple Leafs will also try to get a meeting with Vesey.

The Islanders are a late come to the VeseyPalooza. Isles owner John Ledecky's niece Katie can be credited with getting her uncle and Isles GM Garth Snow into the conversation. Playing withJohn Tavares is a tasty proposition, however, will #91 be re-signing in Brooklyn when he becomes UFA on July 1, 2017? Why didn't Ledecky implore Snow to re-sign UFA power forwards Kyle Okposo and Frans Neilsen, who have signed with Buffalo and Detroit, respectively.

Vesey will be judging all comers using the standards and template already presented by Eichel,Murray and the Sabres.

Murray and the Sabres are still the clubhouse leaders in the Vesey Scramble.

Which team will meet or beat the aggressive proposal of Tim Murray and the Buffalo Sabres. Murray's exclusive negotiating rights expired at midnight Today.

Katie Ledecky's uncle used to work in the front office of the Washington Capitals. However, on July 1 he took over the ownership of the Islanders. The Isles invite may just be a complimentary invite. I don't see Vesey signing in Brooklyn. I also don't think the Harvard grad will select Toronto, Boston, Chicago, nor New Jersey.

The Buffalo Sabres,Pittsburgh Penguins, and NY Rangers are the front runners in the Vesey Scramble.

It’s likely that Vesey and his reps will also take meetings with other teams throughout the week before announcing their final decision on Thursday or Friday.

I've reached out to Vesey's agent and will update throughout the day.
