The Pros and Conacher

He’s always around the net. He skates like the wind. He competes hard for loose pucks. He doesn’t back down from intimidating D-men and angry forwards. He’s slippery in the O-zone, and has sick hand-eye coordination. Ted Nolan says that Conacher plays with “vinegar”, which in hockey terms means that he plays with fire and anger in his belly while on the ice. Call it a chip on his shoulder.

No wonder Tim Murray snatched up Cory Conacher off waivers from Ottawa last Wednesday.

The kid does it all.

On Sunday night, against his fellow Crazy 8’s Buffalo buddy, Pat Kane and the Hawks, Conacher earned his first of many future points to come for the Sabres.

Conacher filled the lane as the late joiner and wasted no time at all advancing Ennis’ tape-to-tape pass to the blue ice where Drew Stafford tapped it in to the yawning net. Nice work. Excellent communication and spacing on the ice.

I really like how the Conacher-Ennis-Stafford line competed against Chicago. They seem to have found instant chemistry. The final 19 games should be fun for this trio to go out, compete and fill the other team’s net with frozen biscuits.

The Buffalo Sabres have suspended newly acquired defenceman Rostislav Klesla for failing to report to the team’s AHL affiliate in Rochester. The Sabres announced the move Sunday, a day after Klesla told TSN that he intended to not finish the NHL season, and instead planned to continue his career in Europe.Buffalo acquired Klesla and goalie Michal Neuvirth in a trade Wednesday that sent goalie Jaroslav Halak and a third-round draft pick to Washington. The Capitals had acquired Klesla a day earlier in a trade with Phoenix. At the time of the trade to Washington, Klesla had been playing for the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate in Portland, Maine. From the Czech Republic, Klesla has 159 points in 659 games split over 13 NHL seasons.

Yeah, just another Pat Kane homecoming party in Buffalo.

Goal #28 on the season for PK88.
