Rasmus Dahlin will be in Buffalo next week for the NHL Scouting Combine.

The Buffalo Sabres are owners of the first overall pick at next month’s NHL Draft. Dahlin will be Jason Botterill’s one and only choice.

The Sabres will be hosting the NHL Combine at HARBORCenter.

What an awkward scenario. Thirty other NHL GMs can sit down and talk with Dahlin during the player interview sessions. They can watch Dahlin participate in the Wingate and strength testing. However, they won’t be able to select the slick puck moving defenseman. They can window shop but they can’t buy Dahlin. He’s going to be property of the Buffalo Sabres.

Talk about torture.

Don’t fret. Other top prospects will be in attendance at the Buffalo Combine.

One expects Andrei Svechnikov, Brady Tkachuk, Filip Zadina, Noah Dobson, Evan Bouchard will participate in the one on one interviews, physical fitness evaluations and media availability.

Jason Botterill and the Sabres front office will use the access to Dahlin to give him a tour of the state of the art hockey facilities at HARBORCenter and the arena the Sabres call home. Dahlin can meet his Sabres teammates and training staff. Last time Dahlin was in Buffalo, it was at the IIHF World Juniors in late December and early January when the air temperatures were in the single digits and the lake effect snow was piled up on the sidewalks. The Buffalo forecast call for 80 and sunny next week when Dahlin is in town. Perfect weather for Dahlin to go apartment shopping while eating blazing, red hot Buffalo wings, and Perry’s Ice Cream.

Coincidence?

Buffalo’s future is so bright they gotta wear shades.

Dahlin will step right into Phil Housley’s top four D corps next season. Don’t be surprised when Dahlin skates 21 minutes TOI per game next season.

Speaking of Rasmus in Buffalo...

On Wednesday, Jason Botterill signed Swedish forward prospect Rasmus Asplund to a three-year entry level contract.

Asplund posted career-high totals in goals (8) assists (20) and points (28) in 50 games during his third full season with Färjestad BK of the SHL in 2017-18. The Filipstad, Sweden native played in parts of four total SHL seasons, posting 62 points (20+42) in 170 career games.

Asplund was Buffalo's second-round pick (33rd overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Asplund will begin his North American pro hockey career with the AHL Rochester Americans.

With Asplund under contract and Dahlin on the way, the Sabres will have three players named Rasmus in the family next season. Rasmus Ristolainen, Rasmus Dahlin and Rasmus Asplund

Rasmii is plural for Rasmus.
