With family and friends in attendance, Brian Gionta scored a second period power play goal to become the third Buffalo Sabres player to score in his 1,000th NHL game.

It was Gionta's 15th goal of the season.

Gionta's goal was the game winner. His seventh as a Sabre and the fifty second of his brilliant NHL career.

According to Sabres PR, the other two players were Gilbert Perreault vs. Pittsburgh (1/29/1984) and Phil Russell at Chicago (3/12/1986).

Stick taps to the Buffalo Sabres video production team for creating this emotional tribute to Gionta. There were a lot of leaky eyes in the building after this video ran before the national anthems.

Thanks, Sabres TV

Gionta's Sabres teammates presented Gionta with an artist rendering. Tim Murray presented his captain with a sterling silver collectors hockey stick commemorating Gionta's 1,000 NHL games.
