“It’s good to be wanted,” Evander Kane told San Jose media on Thursday morning. “I wanted them just as much as they wanted me. The fact we were able to work out a deal so quickly reflects that.”

Kane is on holiday in Greece right now, but took a moment to thank Sharks fans for their appreciation of his game. Kane is thrilled to be a Shark for the next seven seasons.

“I always wanted to stay in San Jose,” Kane said. “After the season, that thought never left my mind and I was happy we were able to get something done.”

According to the Mercury News, Kane will earn $9 million next season and $8 million in 2019-2020,with $5 million in signing bonuses spread over the two seasons . Kane will earn $6 million in 2020-21, 2023-24 and 2024-25, and $7 million in 2021-22 and 2022-23. Spread out over the last five years of the contract will be another $7 million in signing bonus money.

Evander Kane will be a San Jose Shark until the age of 33.

The 26 year old power forward has signed his 7 year, $49 million contract extension to stay in The Bay Area. The Sharks have made the Kane signing official.

Told ya so.

Sharks GM Doug Wilson was the only NHL GM with the cajones to trade for Kane at the NHl trade deadline on February 26.

Trust me when I tell you, there were several Western Conference team GMs that window shopped and scouted Evander Kane when he was starring for the Buffalo Sabres from October 2017 to February 2018. The gawkers, rubber neckers and tire kickers were outclassed and out bid by Wilson, who made the only legit, fair market value hockey trade for Kane. Wilson and Pete DeBoer saw Kane’s true value and pounced on their man while the rest of the suitors weighed their options. In the end, Wilson won the Evander Kane Sweepstakes.

The Buffalo Sabres now own San Jose’s first round draft choice in 2019. Jason Botterill also owns San Jose’s fourth round pick in 2019 and forward prospect and former Boston University scoring star Danny O’Regan.

To a man, his Sharks teammates love playing with Evander Jane, who scored 14 points in 17 regular season games heading down the stretch. Kane added 4 goals and 1 assist in the first 9 playoff games played in his NHL career.

Of his 29 goals and 25 assists scored this season in Buffalo and San Jose, Kane scored only 9 power play points. In his career, Kane has thrived at scoring at 5v5.

Of his 354 career points (186 goals, 168 assistant), Kane has scored 299 even strength points. Kane has scored 25 PPG and 30 PPA.

At the time of the Kane trade, San Jose was ranked 25th overall in even strength scoring in the Nhl. At season’s end, the Sharks were 10th overall in even strength goal scoring. Kane delivered full value by living and playing up to his reputation of being an even strength point creator.

Wilson loves the speed, jam, even strength scoring, high skill, heavy swagger and truculence that Evander Kane infused into the Sharks roster after the trade deadline day transaction.

Back in the #bayarea #sharktank tomorrow let’s go!
