The silence is deafening, eh?
Max Afinogenov has officially been on the market since Noon on Wednesday. One wonders why. Since the shotgun blast started the free agent tourney, twenty NHL forwards have been involved in transactions. None of them possesss the last name Afinogenov. The market has been robust in the first two full days of free agency. Perhaps today will be Max's lucky day.
The good thing is that he was able to witness his fiancee's epic tennis match vs. Serena Williams at the All England Tennis Club yesterday. Elena Dementieva battled , snarled, scraped, clawed, and powered herself to match point vs. Serena, only to have the Ms. Williams fight herself off the ropes. In the end, Serena was too strong an opponent for Elena to handle. Dementieva's fortitude and grace under pressure were remarkle in defeat.
An NHL buddy of mine and I were emailing back and forth late last night and Max's name came up. He told me that he a change of scenery will do Max a lot of good. True that.
For all of his electrifying F-16 fighter plane like power rushes, his sick turn-ins, dipsy doodles on a dime, and Barry Sanders-like, "catch me if you can" moves, 61's tenure in Buffalo is over, however, he leaves this observer wanting more.
The guy is so gifted and talented. Why are 29 other GMs standing pat on #61?
