***Rumor Update:

Got confirmation from very good source that the trade talked about is not imminent. Doesn't mean there isn't some truth in it but for right now nothing is happening.

The scenario that surfaced last night was that the Blue Jackets were looking to make a trade with the Montreal Canadiens. The trade rumored was that the CBJ would be sending Rusty Klesla and Fredrick Modin in return for Roman Hamrlik. On paper, the trade looks like it would make a lot of sense for both clubs as the salaries would match up and it would be players needed by both teams. I will let you know if this trade rumor gets legs in the future.

The other rumor last night was an old rumor that keeps getting brought back from the dead. I swear that the Thomas Kaberle trade rumor is old enough to have a drivers license. It just seems it won't die. That either means that there is some truth behind it or just wishful thinking that keeps it alive.

Like the previous rumor, any out of Canada need to be looked at with a great deal of skepticism. It was the main reason that I didn't report the specifics of the rumor last night.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting multiple reports that GM Scott Howson and the Blue Jackets are in talks with at least 2 teams to acquire a puck moving defenseman. The rumor doesn't have enough confirmation to report but roster players are involved going both ways.

There seems to be way to much smoke not to be some fire in there. Wouldn't doubt that something could happen in the next couple days.

In Other News: Craig Custance from The Sporting News reports that Jason Williams has a 1 year deal on the table from Detroit.

"I'd be going back to a spot I'm familiar with," Williams said. "I know the system they like to play - puck possession, good defense."

He was very kind in his remarks about Columbus.

He said he loved his time in Columbus, and would like to return to the Blue Jackets but hasn't gotten an offer from GM Scott Howson. Even so, he had great things to say about his 39-game stint with the Blue Jackets.

"The guys are great, the organization is really turned around," he said. "Everything was first class there."

Detroit seems to be the only NHL team interested in Willy but the KHL also may be calling.

"I'm not going to close the door on that," Williams told SportingNews.com. "I know over there they're really trying to compete with the NHL. It's a great league."

Fire The Cannon!
