That was an ugly game last night. As ugly as it gets, and thankfully
Carey Price didn't make it look as ugly on the scoreboard.
Broken:
The Powerplay
The Chemistry
The Trust
The Confidence
But their will isn't broken...it's just injured right now. Injured with each turnover in the defensive zone, injured with each missed net on the powerplay, injured with Mike Komisarek on the sidelines indefinitely.
While these are all causes for major concern, the season isn't over, it's just starting.

*********
I wonder how long it takes before Bob Gainey brings up a couple of Bulldogs. I wonder how long it'll be before one of the 5 players vying for fourth line minutes is traded or waived. If this team doesn't shake itself out of this losing skid, Bob Gainey will shake it up.
I'd like to see what
Yannick Weber can do on this powerplay. A big shot on the point isn't the only solution to the powerplay issues. The Canadiens are unwilling to take risks with the cross-ice passes that made them so successful with the man advantage. Kovalev seems unwilling to cut towards the middle when he has time, and control of the puck on the sideboards. Puck recover is the most concerning issue. The one-on-one battles have been too easy for the opposition. Montreal has to find a way to play with some grit.
Everyone's criticized
Georges Laraque early this season. When he's in the lineup it's like a free pass for the rest of the team to play sans grit. This team has to start playing with some emotion, and they have to start playing for each other.
No one wants to pay the price to make a big play, and until that changes, things are going to be tough for a group of players that represent one of the most skilled teams in the league.
If you want to see the confidence rise for each individual player, they need to start having confidence in each other. That's the only way we're going to start seeing the hockey we want to see from this group.
It starts in Ottawa tomorrow.
More to come...
