Bergevin in the Market for a Blockbuster?

1) If you're keeping score, the Canadiens beat up on the Blues, Blue Jackets and Maple Leafs by a 12-goal margin this week.

Even more impressive, the bottom-of-the-barrel in the first period Canadiens outscored their opponents 6-1 in the opening frame. And through February, the Habs managed 13 of their 33 first period goals this season.

Now's as good a time as any to be getting off to good starts, especially when you consider how comfortable Montreal is with the lead, having won 26 of 31 games in which they've scored first.

2) Carey Price continues to make it look easy being the best.

He's up to a .936 save percentage. He's down to a 1.88 goals against. He's up to 36 wins. And ho hum, he's only second in shutouts with six to Marc Andre Fleury's eight.

There's an intimidation factor to Price that hasn't been seen in the NHL since Dominic Hasek. He just appears as though he's unbeatable.

The song for his claim to the Vezina and Hart trophies is being sung by the world's largest chorus. Seems as though every time you hear Price's name, the trophies get mentioned.

When you consider how much buzz there is about Price in our hockey circles, can you imagine how much opposing teams talk about him before a game against the Canadiens?

3) Getting a one-on-one with GM Marc Bergevin days before the trade deadline has got to be as easy as scoring on Carey Price while blindfolded.

How did you do it, Sean?

What a fantastic piece of insight this is on the Canadiens architect.

It's all about the stories that humanize the superhuman. Gordon weaves this masterpiece by giving you a sense of who the real Bergevin is, and it turns out he's the guy you knew you wanted to have a beer with.

4) Twice, Michel Therrien's gone out of his way to compare Jacob De La Rose to Jordan Staal. Sufficed to say the coach likes and trusts this 19-year-old player.

In his last eight games, De La Rose hasn't dipped below 14:10 in ice-time. Putting that into context, Alex Galchenyuk only played over 14:10 eight times in his first NHL season (48 games).

5) I don't think Marc Bergevin's done. I have to think his main area of focus between now and 3:00pm tomorrow is a top six forward. And we know he's trying to make a 'hockey deal'.

I think if Bergevin moves again, it's going to be of the blockbuster variety. How can he not sense that this is a year to go for it?

Taking into account everything he told Gordon in that piece, he can make such a move without sacrificing the team's future as a perennial contender, bringing in a forward that's got term left on his deal.

He may not hit a homerun, but I believe Bergevin's swinging for the fences right now.
