Thanks to everyone who participated in yesterdays Chat. I will do another one tomorrow at 4. There are so many great questions it feels like we could do a chat round the clock. I love the passion of hockey fans this time of year. Many of you have said you would like more frequent shorter updates and I will attempt to oblige today...

Everyone is back from Carolina today and the games and trade rumors appear to have returned.

The Two Most Desperate Teams....

If I was to name the two most desperate teams in hockey right now they would have to be the LA Kings and the Montreal Canadiens...Both teams fit all the requirements for a team in desperation...

1. They have high expectations in markets who will not accept a step backwards should the team not make the playoffs.

2. They have struggled and are on their respective bubbles.

3. Teams they are battling appear to be picking their games up and improving.

4. They have very definable needs.

4. They have cap space to use to make a difference.

On Montreal on Regehr...

The Habs Rumors are EVERYWHERE this morning...

Esteemed Habs writer, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette writes today..."The big question is this: Do the Canadiens need another top-six forward (Jason Arnott, Brad Richards and Stephen Weiss among those mentioned in rumours), or do they need a defenceman like Robyn Regehr?

I am told The Habs and have jumped to the forefront in the hunt to add a quality d-man: Robyn Regehr. He is the perfect fit given the injury to Markov.

The question I really keep asking (as do you) is who can the Habs afford to give up? Well fortunately for Montreal , the initial belief is prospects and picks being Calgary has some extra players on their roster.

Yet, the Flames are also playing really well right now and have gotten into the hunt.

This could all get very interesting very quickly. Who will Regehr be skating for in the Heritage Classic a few short days before the Trade deadline? Montreal or Calgary?

On Boston...

With Savards injury it was believed the Bruins would use the cap space from Marc on IR and pickup a player...While this is true, the really big rumor today is the Bruins are trying to not only get one player (believed to be Phillips) but may be trying to move Wheeler to Toronto in an attempt to clear even more Cap Space for???

One source told me this...

"The Bruins are also considering not grabbing Phillips and a second player and instead using all the Cap Space available to make a run at Brad Richards. There is a belief the window is open and with Timmy Thomas playing at the top of his game (or at the top of any goalies game) adding Richards could give them enough offense to make a run."

I do buy this. I have long felt the hardest team to beat in a seven game series right now in the NHL is: The Boston Bruins. If they go out get him they could be incredibly dangerous.

more to come..........
