The Islanders fans need something....here is something...
Matt Duchene...
Two sources have told me that the Islanders have talked to Ottawa about Matt Duchene...who will be a UFA a year from now.. Duchene is happy playing in Ottawa for the location, but not at all happy about being in a "strip it down" rebuild.
Now before you all say, "The Islanders are also in the midst of that same exact thing..."they really aren't. Garth Snow has stacked the Isles with some very serious prospects and the youth is coming soon...Also, last year we saw some serious progress from several young Islanders.
Also, Lou and Barry Trotz are both VERY good at fielding competitive teams while rebuilding. I do believe we will see that this year...As hard as it is to lose Tavares I wouldn't at all be surprised to see the Islanders players who are left find a rallying cry and out perform their expectations.
And while it may take a little more time, Lou will land a goalie before the season begins...
...and they are also in on Karlsson.....some say they are looking at Karlsson and Bobby Ryan possibly...
