On Stamkos...

Contract talks continue with Tampa and Stamkos with mixed reports as to how the talks are progressing. But the Lightning have a real threat to deal with here. A very real threat.

Sources have been telling me, that due to the very high $48 million floor, it is quite possible a team that is fighting to make it to the floor decides to throw a 1 year offer sheet at Stamkos for $11 Million.

Think about it.

The Lightning wouldn't have the option to even match because they are too close to the Cap.

So say it's a team like Nashville, Florida, Winnipeg, NY Islanders, or even Phoenix needs to spend money to get to the floor. These are markets that are going to be brutalized by the floor being $48M. These teams are destined to lose millions this year at $48 Million...so their best bet is to go out there and sign a 1 year deal for max money for Stamkos or even Drew Doughty...

If the player is willing to take the money you do that. At least the sales of that star player's jerseys and the excitement he brings to the rink is money better spent then over-paying second and third liners to get to the floor.

AND, after that one year that team would own the rights to Stamkos and could use the return to build their franchises with draft picks and solid prospects for years to come...

All this, for a one-time, one-year $11 Million investment.

Watching Calgary...

The Flames must make a major move shortly here. I am hearing Bouwmeester and Reghr's names being thrown around...Teams interested..NJ, NYI, Washington, and Ottawa...

Leafs, No on Stastny, but Parise...

My Leaf sources are telling me they are not interested in Stastny as has been rumoured, however there appears to be a different tune when it comes to Parise...who the Devils are taking to Arbitration, but...

Jagr...

TSN's Bob McKenzie has confirmed Montreal is back in this and Detroit is out...which is very interesting, but in no way surprising..

more to come
