From last night...

Was just woken up by a western conference scout (who worked for Columbus at one point) texting me "just heard a Parise for Nash rumor. Both NJ and Columbus are looking to replace their stars with stars and this is possible."

Updated 9:00 am

In general I try to stay away from opinions on rumors I am given and instead I just pass along any rumor as long as it was told to me by someone who could know. Last time I censored a rumor a backup goalie was named as GM. That being said, there are many reasons why Parise for Nash does not appear likely. The main reason being the long-held believe that Parise is a pure rental and from all inside sources is going to not accept an extension from any team and instead test the UFA market. So unless the jackets can change that held belief and sign him it would be a disastrous move. So when I hear a rumor like this I do indeed question the likelihood, but my curiosity is peaked by it.

Good rumors leave us with interesting questions...and many more clues if we look. From this rumor we get that, while Columbus may ponder trading Nash they are setting the price very high and we are also left wondering of the jackets are preparing some sort of monster offer to Parise...in an attempt to change his mind. While many believe he won't we learn a little more of the commitment and plan in Columbus.

One of the funniest parts of my jobs os when the people who simply will never "get it" go at me for a rumor and write down all the reason I am wrong...as if I too don't get the logic or reasons a trade shouldn't happen. As if I wrote the rumor without ever expecting people to react to it the way they do. I do follow this sport, I get why something doesn't "sound right."

However, that is not my job. Others may approach the rumor game that way, but I don't. I give you the rumor and that's all. I don't get in your face with my opinion. I allow you to make your own. I have definitely learned opinions are only as strong as the information one has to formulate them. And while we have some info...cap space, team needs,etc...there is easily as much info we aren't privy to as well...team chemistry, team fiances, when a player wants out because he is no longer "the man"...

So tread wisely..
