UPDATES APPEAR AT BOTTOM OF THE BLOG...
SENATORS LOOKING WEST FOR SOME D
If there is one thing that seams the most certain in the rumour mill these days it is that the Sens are truly working the phones around the clock.
However, not until this morning has there been a convergence of sorts when it comes to what various sources are saying. Over the past two weeks I have heard rumours with Ottawa and Florida and Ottawa and Columbus, but today four separate sources have all contacted me saying that they are hearing the Senators and Flames are in talks.
While no one has the names yet, all the sources are essentially in line with the fact that the deal being discussed would send a top 4 d-man to Ottawa for a top 6 forward and strong prospect.
I will continue to try and get names and timeframes on this deal. I do get the sense that we will know more about "when" this goes down by the weekend.
Canucks and the West Impress
As the details are still being worked on for our new Canucks blogger here at Hockeybuzz.com I really felt it was worth noting how impressive this Canucks team is right now...
If I am
Mats Sundin and I am watching the battle of two of the teams that most want my services last night, I would have to say that Vancouver's up tempo style has to be extremely tempting. I love to watch this team play and the bottom line is if the Canucks can score at this rate they are as dangerous as anyone. They flat out have the best goaltender in hockey already and as solid a defensive six to compliment him What
Kyle Wellwood is doing is nothing short of magical and don't look now but this is the best I have seen Demitra playing since he was dominant in St. Louis a few years back. The Sedins, playing in a contract year, are definitely a blast to watch. I tell you...as someone who doesn't get to see this team as much as I'd like, last night showed me just how strong the Western Conference is.
This week we have seen the Wild beat the Pens and the Canucks beat the Rangers. And those two teams are not the Detroit Red Wings or San Jose Sharks...And by the way, the Anaheim Ducks can beat them all when they are clicking and healthy...
Bobby Ryan Factor
And if there was something that was obvious to me last night, it was that the only NHL player from my home town,
Bobby Ryan, should NEVER again be sent to the AHL. Did you all see how dominant this kid can be? Last night he was the best player on the ice in the Ducks/Caps game...and there were some pretty damn good players on the ice...
Staaling....
Oh, and one more rumour out there that involves the Canucks...Calling it a rumour is maybe not quite accurate, because it is not something that is happening any time soon, but more whispers of what is to come this summer. With
Jordan Staal a pending RFA...I keep hearing two teams that are already looking towards putting a pretty serious offer sheet together for
Jordan Staal...
The Canucks and Maple Leafs are both VERY high on Staal and could potentially have the coin to make it happen. As solid as Staal is, it may behoove the Penguins to take the first round picks in this case...But that is a debate for another time...
2:40 pm. Sources are telling me that
Ladislav Smid (friend of the Buzz) is being moved to the wing for tonight's Oilers game.
3:23pm Claude Lemieux moving up to the AHL after just two games in China...
