Interesting how last week the Rangers didn't invite Wade Redden to camp. Redden, as you all know, has been making $6.5M per down in Hartford and the Rangers are using his cap space in other ways. Is Wade Redden worth $6.5M ? Not to the Rangers right now, but is Redden still an NHL-caliber player? Yes.

So the Rangers have been waiting this out. They have been keeping Wade in the AHL and hoping for a chance to perhaps bring him back through waivers and possibly get a team to bite on half the salary. They have been looking for that team "constantly" according to my sources, and ramped that up even more this summer. And they had some bites, but the issue has been the Rangers wanting to move Wolski or another cap hit as well because even 3.2 million dollars is a Cap nightmare for the Rangers.

And the Rangers may need D help immediately with Marc Staal "very questionable" as he is recovering from concussion symptoms going back to a hit last year mid-season.

For his part Wade Redden, a very good guy, has not complained about being in the AHL, and while critics will scoff and say he is making a ton of money with very little pressure, he is also an NHL player who at his heart wants to play and compete in the NHL. But again, publicly Redden won't complain.

So why not at least invite him to camp and give teams a chance to see him play? Then maybe get a buyer...Are the Rangers too paranoid Redden will get hurt and they will be stuck or are they perhaps closing in on a team who may be willing to pick up half the money?

Some people want Redden to just nullify his deal and move on. Then he could play for any NHL team, become a UFA, and would 100% be in the NHL this season. Teams like NJ, NYI, Winnipeg, and even Vancouver would probably give him a tryout and sign him up. Those people are being very unfair. Wade is looking out for his family here as well, and no one can judge him for that.

The Rangers however may need D help VERY soon here.
