The Habs Ownership Has to Step Up And Stop This Subban Trade Lunacy.

P.K. Subban made the biggest philanthropic donation by a Canadian athlete in history. He didn't win an award for it tonight, and you wouldn't know how amazing of a person this guy is from the way he is being treated in Montreal by an organization that is toying with the ridiculous concept of moving him.

I talked to a source tonight who believes PK will not be traded. The Canadiens are taking calls on him though. How they have not shut this down at this point really makes me question the ethics and intelligence of an organization I have always considered one of the finest in all of sports.

I grew up a fan of two teams. The Flyers and the Canadiens. I would beg my family to take me to visit Montreal every summer and we almost always did...I loved everything about the city, especially its people. Habs fans are still among my favorites because they have an amazing passion that stretches beyond just what happens on the ice. Habs fans understand the game and the people of the game. They appreciate the good in people. Perhaps no single player personifies this more than PK Subban.

PK will be donating a total of $10 million over the next seven years to the a Children's Hospital in Montreal. Over the past few years I have seen my own son in and out of children's hospitals in Philadelphia and Delaware, and in my opinion what Subban is doing couldn't be any more noble.

If I am the owner of the Habs I make a call right now and declare that Subban is in Montreal for those seven years he is donating...at LEAST. I tell my GM to stop all doubt right now and make it known that Subban will be a Hab for the foreseeable future... I know his "No Movement Clause" kicks in on July 1, but why the hell is this even being discussed? Seriously. Why?

Even if you take the person out of it and look at the player....is there a player who you could get for PK that would make this trade worth it? The best you could probably get is Malkin..but were I Montreal I still wouldn't do Subban for Malkin. A defenseman of PK's skills is just about impossible to find. And the defense left after Subban has departed would hardly be the group I would want protecting my injury riddled superstar goalie Carey Price.

From an on-the-ice perspective Moving PK Subban makes Zero sense.

In my opinion, based on conversations I have, the ONLY reason this is even being entertained right now is because Michel Therrien doesn't like PK Subban. Michel Therrien has NEVER backed PK Subban. Habs fans I ask you this question..."Who would you back in this: Therrien or Subban?" The mere fact that Therrien has thrown PK under the bus so many times tells you a ton about his character. I am sorry if that offends people, but I have very little respect for Therrien or coaches like him whose chief motivational tactic is nothing deeper than getting his team to dislike him. That method is so "high school amateur." A franchise like Montreal, and the great city and people who make it all it is, deserve so much more.

If the Canadiens truly have become a team that choses to retain a Michel Therrien and shuffles off a PK Subban then honestly I can't see Habs fans standing for it. I will go so far as to say the Habs fans I know will lose their frigging minds.

I will end this with what I know about the Subban rumors. One GM has told me the price is crazy high and he doesn't think Subban is getting moved. Others have said the same. The Habs aren't shopping PK. That is true. But in this case not enough.

I am not even putting him on my Rumor Chart. I know there are folks out there who will say, "Bergevin is just doing his job and listening to offers. He wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't listening to offers." To that I tell you to look at Nashville. Yes Nashville. The Preds are contacted constantly about Shea Weber (two nights ago by Boston) and the answer is always a resounding NO. Offers aren't even listened to. Non-starter. Definitive. That's what a quality franchise does for quality players/people Montreal. Do I really have to say the Montreal Canadiens Franchise should learn from the Nashville Predators franchise?

That's unfortunately where we are folks.

Thoughts?
