The Difference Between "being given C" and Flat Out Demanding/Taking It.

While I was hanging out with the folks from Flyersfaithful.com tonight, playing NHL 94 and helping to raise money/awareness for the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation, I was asked "Do you think the Flyers could potentially hurt Giroux's development if they gave him the Captain's C now?"

I am one of the guys who would normally say yes. I don't believe in giving the "C" to the best young player on the team just because you believe he will eventually be a Captain. It just puts added pressure on a player who already has a lot of pressure on him to produce...

We have seen a lot of these types of stars given the C, but the difference in Philly right now is "Giroux hasn't been given the C, he is just flat out demanding and taking it." Whether it's his constant deflection of Bryzgalov or his speed, or his defense, or his instincts with the puck, or his 'calling' the first goal tonight...Giroux is the team captain and his love of the game and all it is has the Flyers into the second round and ready for more...

Coming in the am...my thoughts on the Kings/Canucks and Bruins/Caps series...
