Rumours are Rumours...but this is from a connected source out West (therefore the e3) who confirmed to me today that "this is a definite possible outcome of the Gaborik standoff."
Many Habs fans will note that Higgins always pops up in Rumours and Gainey always shoots them down. I am told that if this deal fails to happen it will be all on Gaborik not wanting to play in Montreal.
It is a trade that makes sense for both parties. The Wild are off to a solid start and could become instant contenders should this go down, and the Canadiens would add a bona fide superstar to a line-up that already is knocking on Stanley's door.
Not certain what conditions would be tied to the #1, but I imagine it could be linked to Gaborik's games played or signing an extension in Montreal..
