There are several things percolating this morning, but one I find interesting on a few levels is the apparent availability of the Red Wing's Jordin Tootoo...to be honest even writing "The Red Wing's" Jordin Tootoo feels a bit odd to this writer who remembers Tootoo more for antagonizing the Wings as a feisty and very popular Nashville Predator...
Tootoo is available, but at 1.9M is a stretch for some teams given his current role in Detroit as a fourth liner. However, the question out there is more "Is Tootoo truly only a fourth liner or is the depth in Detroit putting him there?" I think the answer is, as often the case, somewhere in the middle, but I also believe in players who are willing to lay it all on the line on the ice...And there the debate is non-existent.
There are NHL teams right now who could use a little of what Jordin brings to the party.
One source says there are three possibilities...Buffalo, Edmonton, and the NY Islanders. Another says the Islanders and Devils, noting the Oilers tried to grab him last week and talks went poorly.
The sticking point is the contract, and as of at least least week, the Wings weren't willing to take on any of the salary....not yet.
At what point might they? Well I believe that point is sometime within the next 60 days or so, and we will know soon by the Wings actions. If Tootoo is on waivers the Wings are showing they are simply looking to shed the contract, but any team out there, at this point, would want the Wings to take back money or a contract...or have the Wings pick up "around 500k" of the salary.
