Sorry, There Is No Other Way to Say It, The Oilers Were Screwed.

I have been writing daily stories for almost 12 years and I have said the refs blew a game or even a call maybe three times...

Ok...let me start with some disclaimers...

The Ducks played a hell of a game. The Oilers put themselves into the precarious situation that led to what occurred in the final 20 seconds...

This series is what we all thought it would be..One VERY experienced team with veterans who have been here before against a group of young star players with almost too much skill for their own good, but who might trade a few for a real stay at home defenseman like Luke Richardson right now.

The Oilers are taking a crash course in "what can go wrong in the playoffs" right now..

And as an aside......if you aren't involved with any emotional ties in this series...it is incredible to watch...

So disclaimers aside...

This happened...

Clearly, Ryan Kesler gets knocked into the crease...or guided into the crease by Nurse...But Nurse had very little to do with Ryan Kesler pulling Gibson's leg and exposing a five hole more open than a I-5 carpool lane at 3 am.

And Kesler is not exactly a first time offender...I tried to find this play on youtube and searched "Kesler Interference" and was treated to quite a history...

The situation room said Nurse pushed him in....and the debate today is "what the bleep is goalie interference?"

My current interpretation is, "A player should be called for goalie interference if he comes in any contact with the goalie trying to make a save, UNLESS a defender is defending him AT ALL...in which case the forward can do WHATEVER the hell he wants."

Perhaps the NHL needs to take a page from the NBA and admit they simply blew this one...
