Apologies for being cryptic and the delay getting this up. I love my job on days like today, days when it feels like a big puzzle to solve..I have some off-the-record info now, which I can go live with around at 5pm..that info is interesting and concerns 2 of the major UFA's, however, it is only about half as interesting as what appears to be brewing in the next 24-48 hours in eastern Canada...wow

Really all I can say for now, but I will have more...I was in the middle of putting together a big UFA domino blog, but to be honest until I know if 2 of those dominos are heading out in the next few hours it felt prudent to wait...

There are some interesting things going on as we speak right now..

According to reports the NY Islanders made an offer of ALL of their draft picks to the Columbus Blue Jackets to move up to the second overall. Think Garth likes Murray? In a draft this rich in defensive talent it will be one of those non-trades that defines these two organizations...

Would YOU have made the trade?

Also, there are reports from Aaron Portzline that a good source is telling him Roberto Luongo has turned down waiving his NTC for Toronto and Chicago. Aaron is always solid, and in this case it is particularly interesting to note I heard from a very good source on Friday that Columbus had been in on the bidding for Luongo and them dropping out forced them into the trade for Bobrovsky... So Portzline might be onto something

it is also noteworthy that we have seen NTC denials before and then players get dealt. We have also seen NTC denial rumors that weren't entirely true. And that's not to blame a reporter for them, but more that what defines a "refusal to wave a NTC can be all over the map."

My definition has always been the standard "teams have worked out a deal, the GM went to the player and he said 'No."

However some people base it on "the team wasn't on the player's list of acceptable teams" or "The other team came to the Canucks and they said that Roberto wouldn't accept a trade there" and no discussions were had.

All these possibilities exist and they all have their own reasons for being leaked.

1. They might be cut and dry the case. Ex: Luongo doesn't want to go to Toronto or Chicago...
In this case you always have to ask yourself, "why was this info leaked?" NOTHING is leaked for no reason at all. It certainly wouldn't behoove Gillis to put that out there. If he was trying to get teams interested in Luongo he wouldn't want the team he is talking to to know they were one of the few possibilities. In general other GMs won't spread this around out of respect...for example, where this the case, Brian Burke sure would have had a plethora of opportunities to simply say in response the hourly Luongo question, "He wont come here."

So why hasn't Burke said this? Well he probably doesn't feel it is either true, or not definitive yet.

The only way this leaks is if a team feels there's no chance. Or they feel ticked off about something...or if that is the current state of things.

Players do change their minds...if they didn't Howson wouldn't be spending so much time to Ottawa about Nash.

the rumor day is only beginning..check back
