Also I am talking to Kovalchuk sources all the time, and I may jump in with an update at any point here today. Something could go down sooner than later I was told...

Updated news on Higgins, Kariya, Halak, Whitney, Selanne, Stajan, Leopold, and Kubina this afternoon...

In the meantime, here are some more key second tier guys I am now tracking and adding to the Rumor Chart throughout the day...

Johan Hedberg: The backup goalie for the Thrashers has shown signs of definite brilliance at times. He could be the ideal pickup for a playoff team who moves their #2 goalie or has an iffy #1.

Maxim Afinogenov: He has shown he can perform with linemates and we know he is tight with Markov in Montreal and Ovechkin in Washington...both of whom made pitches in the past. If the Thrashers decided they were out of it he could have value. If they move Kovalchuk they should probably also move Max. Getting something for him would be quite the steal considering they signed him when really no one else would.

Aaron Ward: I am hearing the Capitals have interest as well as the Sharks. The Canes would have to be willing to take some money back.

David Hale: A versatile player who can play both up and back. He had success in NJ as a rental before. I have heard the NY Isles have interest.

Vesa Toskala: I have heard the Hawks, Flyers and Kings have interest, but the Leafs would need to take some money back in return. Much depends on the health of current goalies, but if a team has a goalie go down and has high expectations...maybe.

Adam Foote: The Capitals have interest, and really....is there a better fit? There are those who feel that a stay at home guy who can lend experience to their D could be the more likely path than picking up Sheldon Souray. I personally agree, yet must report what is out there.

Shawn Horcoff: The NY Islanders may consider Horcoff as they have the money to make it happen and believe, as I do, that Horcoff in a new environment could be a star. I have also heard Ottawa mentioned, but I have zero idea how they make the numbers work.

Steve Staios: I have heard the Devils and Steve Hindle speculated the Caps.
