This morning mainstream hockey writers are reporting on the rumors that San Jose is talking to Ottawa about Heatley but needs to make a deal first with Montreal to make it happen. That news is "so late August."
Just a little joke.
Anyway, it is heating up more so now because the Oilers have left Heatley and moved on, and maybe, just maybe, the fact that Heatley is unwilling to go to his good friend's wedding to the press may tell you that he probably wants to not go to Sens camp.
Heatley in Ottawa this year is just not an option. Especially given the culture around the Senators.
Meanwhile, what isn't yet being reported is that the Canadiens have been unable to make the move they need to make to deal with the Sharks, and the Sharks decided to try something else and have talked Kessel with Boston. That deal is likely closer than anything else right now.
Then there is Cheechoo...I am a Cheechoo fan. Yes still very much so. In fact, I would definitely take a flyer on him. It is easy to bash the one time 50 goal guy and say he has fallen quickly in production due to injury. Cheechoo is essentially getting punished because of that one season in my opinion. I will take the heart of a player like Cheechoo and 30 goals any day of the week.
