First up today...

On Offer Sheets...

There are two big name players who are quite possibly going to be tendered offer sheets according to various sources.

The most definitive offer sheet rumor I am hearing is that of Antti Niemi. Sources have confirmed to me the following: "There is a team out West who feels by tendering an offer sheet to Niemi they would not only help themselves, but also hurt the Hawks as well, since the Hawks are up against the Cap and would not be able to match to sign Niemi."

The other name is Bobby Ryan, who I am hearing could be linked to the NY Islanders, Devils, Sabres, or Senators with an offer sheet. Another source confirmed to me that another scenario could arise where the Maple Leafs trade for Ryan's rights before a sheet is tendered. The Leafs obviously don't have the picks to make an offer sheet viable.

On Kovalchuk...

Don't count the Blues and Leafs out of this race quite yet, they are very much in it, and have the money to make it happen...The Kings are the leader of the pack, but I am hearing all sorts of scenarios being thrown around so far today as people continue to speculate. One of the more intriguing being Kovalchuk would sign for 1 year at a reduced rate to play with either Pittsburgh or Washington. This would be following in his good friend Hossa's footsteps...

Souray for Brewer?

It's a rumor, just a rumor, reported by Bob McKenzie...
