As the Holiday trade freeze approaches rumors are starting to pop like cheap microwave popcorn before a Sherlock marathon...Start here today...
On the Habs and Rangers...
The names I am hearing are Del Zotto going to Montreal with Diaz and a prospect (e3) returning to NY. The Avalanche also have plenty of interest in Del Z...but are playing it very close to the vest.
On Tim Thomas...
While so far injuries have been a disappointment in Florida, Tim has shown he can play, and he has definite trade value as a backup for a playoff team looking to make a run and in need of playoff experience or assurances. The Kings (e3) and Penguins (e4) are two teams to look for here...no question. I have also heard Columbus (e2) mentioned...
On Ryan Miller...
It's funny how much I have written about this situation and how Anaheim (e3) continues to be the team to watch here... I am once again hearing the Oilers covet Jonas Hiller (e4) as well...There is a little out there to the Chicago rumors however. The injury to Crawford is still a bit uncertain, but I was told by an excellent source that if crawford has trouble returning to be on the lookout for a deadline deal from Chicago (e2) ...in fact even if Crawford does return the Hawks will likely make a play. You can always be sure management in Chicago loves to make these sorts of PR splashes. There are quite a few teams who would like to get Miller pre-olympics...I keep being told Buffalo wants to let the Olympics further drive up the price.
On Evander Kane and Hemsky...
More than one source tells me Hemsky will go to the team "who miss out on Evander Kane." The Canadiens (e2) , Bruins(e2), Devils (e1) and Panthers (e3) are all possible here. Although the Panthers will only trade for Kane I was told.
On Ruutu...
Tuomo Ruutu is a name I keep hearing connected to the Leafs (e4) and the Canucks (e2)
On the Blues...
The Blues are going to be the most interesting team to look at as the deadline approaches...I believe they will be front and center when it comes to Evander Kane, but I have yet to hear they are in on this at this point...however I have heard the Blues are looking to make a few set up moves that may position them to grab Kane. I have heard they have interest in Scott Hartnell (e2) and Damien Brunner (e2).
I am heading down to Flyers/Caps in a few hours and will further update from there if I hear anything else. I am still chasing down a Penguins rumor that is pretty surprising as well as a possible deal involving a D-man and the Lightning...we will see...as you can tell it has been a fun day so far!
