Palmieri Added to Team USA, No Kessel....Why? Best #2 Ever?

Kyle Palmieri has been added to team USA replacing injured Ryan Callahan...Palmieri is a deserving player, who is coming off a fantastic season...But the bigger question here is...

Why not Phil Kessel?

The way team USA works has always been to build by lines. Callahan was going to be a fourth liner. A hard working guy who can chip in on the PK.. They don't see Kessel that way, but they do see Palmieri that way....at least more like that. More of a Torts player too.

The issue here comes down to team PHILosophy....Kessel is a unique player/character and I don't get the impression Team USA gets how to handle him.....like the Penguins did. The argument that Kessel doesn't work if he isn't in a top 6 roll has been proven recently by the Penguins to be false.

Bottom line here is Team USA is being constructed to compete with Canada. Are you going to beat Canada by pushing them around or outscoring them? The last Olympics two players for Team USA were effective against Canada. Quick and Kessel. In my opinion team USA just doesn't have the scoring to put Palmieri on the team and leave Kessel, who along with Kane are the country's biggest threats, off the team.

What do you think?

Yesterday you chose Jacques Plante as the best #1 to ever play the game....today its on to #2.

We will get into this today for sure, as well as nominating #3 on the Buzzcast at 1pm
