On Souray and On Who the Flames Want... |

Spoke with some sources last evening, and finally caught up with a major source out West...here is the latest...
on Souray...
He believes he is going to be traded. When I met with some folks at the draft, some Oilers sources, I didn't get that impression at all. Much was said at the end of last season, but there seemed to be some sort of understanding about what went on at the end of last season and a feeling like today was a "new day."
However, over the last week or so, the Souray rumors are back. The Capitals are once again the most likely partner, and the team who would benefit amazingly from the addition of Sheldon Souray. But the Sharks are also being discussed, as are the Senators, Ducks and Islanders...
Sheldon isn't cheap however, and with Kovalchuk we have seen how difficult it can be to fit significant money into any team. Only the Kings, who appear to be closing on Mitchell soon, have the money to bring in someone big...short term...and as you probably noticed I didn't include them in the list of teams most likely to be in this game...
Will Souray be moved? Hard to imagine, because of the money involved.
Does Souray make any team better? There is no question...His power play abilities, combined with a much harder edge than most give him credit for, make Souray a solid 1-2. And is why he was paid handsomely.
On the Flames...
There have been several trade rumors surrounding the Flames over the last few days with sources from Canada to Russia saying a deal could be coming any moment. Tonight, I finally got the key names the Flames have interest in...Brandon Dubinsky and Jeff Carter. The Flames having huge interest in both players and are believed to be offering some rather intriguing/creative trade packages..
I wish I knew what was being offered up exactly...
