I have been chasing this through the am...

On Luongo...

For some time now I have been told the asking price for Luongo is essentially way higher than the market value...However, this morning, through three separate texts, I am getting the impression the Canucks may be getting closer to moving Roberto...

The teams are the same...Toronto, Florida, and Columbus, however I am getting a sense that one of these three teams has come up with, as one source put it in his text "a creative way of re-thinking the Luongo deal."

Another source said, "More confident than I have been since this started that Roberto is on the move. Possibly as early as this weekend." I will be tracking this very closely.

On Phoenix...

The word is the deal is close to getting finalized, and along with new ownership getting the deal approved by the NHL could come the announcement that they have signed Shane Doan to a 4 year deal, as well as the team is working on an extension to tie up goalie Mike Smith.

On the Flyers...

Add Carlo Colaiacovo to possible D-men the Flyers have interest in...should Bouwmeester go elsewhere.

On the CBA...

I have been talking to all sides on this a ton this week. As many of you remember I got my start during the NHL lockout by having information from inside both camps and this time around I am getting even better info. I will be starting series called "Ways to Bridge the CBA Gap" based on information I have gathered from both sides. These will be some o the creative ideas I have been hearing as I continue to touch base with old friends from the first lockout.

As for now it can't be overstated how little a September 15th lockout would matter. When Bettman stated this yesterday there were waves of panic going through the hockey world, and I get it. We missed a season due to a lockout. But that was very different.

That Lockout was driven by a REAL issue of a salary cap and the NHLPA and NHL were in very different states than they are currently.

The NHLPA is on solid footing and sources tell me Donald Fehr isn't losing sleep over the September 15th deadline. There is almost zero chance a deal gets done by then. A short lockout this time around actually HAS to happen. Strange as it sounds it helps both sides and both sides know it. The NHLPA isnt going to panic and the NHL is doing too well for owners to be ok with a long lockout.

But the NHL does need some aspects of the CBA fixed. And the NHLPA as well.

All a September 15th lockout does is force each side to get serious about those topics. Both sides have already built this lockout in. Both sides have been talking about a September 15th lockout for almost a year. It is why there are no teams going to Europe to start the season. It is not a shock and no one is losing money really by a short lockout.

If we miss much time in October however...then the ire will begin...the question will be...from who?
