It was long believed that the Kovalchuk sweeps began and ended in Los Angeles. There was a strong belief among almost everyone I talked to since about mid-January said Ilya wanted to be a King and the Kings wanted him.
It was even believed among sources that the LA Kings pulling out of the Ilya deadline sweeps was predicated on the belief they could get Kovalchuk for free this summer.
well now, as we sit here only a little more then 3 weeks from July 1, I am hearing it is not happening....
A week ago I was also hearing Ilya's options were getting very thin. Yesterday however, a source told me "there now are more options for Kovalchuk than I ever imagined there would be."
