Heading down to the Blures/Flyers this evening. Looking forward to seeing a team in the Blues that it feels like I never get to see. If you are a Flyers fan going tonight definitely watch for David Backes, who while he has struggled mightily this season is one of the future stars that this team is filled with.

I really got to see this kid's brilliance at the USA Olympic Camp where I was told that essentially he was a lock for team USA. While he should be still, he has only 1 goal and 1 assist to this point in 13 games this year after his 30+ season last year.

So here is my debate today....The American team is small and quick and needs size. It is no secret that Ryan Malone, David Booth and David Backes bring needed size to the Americans. Especially when facing off against the likes of Malkin and Getzlaf.

So what youn American Star who wasn't invited to the team USA camp should be considered above Backes right now.

How about the Flyers own James van Riemsdyk. JvR has 14 points in 11 games and is a +7. Right now, JvR has to be considered a lock for team USA. By some high ups at USA Hockey he is, while others will not be OK with James until he shows more of a mean streak. That will be the decider.

The Canucks are reportedly leading the way for Peter Forsberg right now, but I would definitely include Montreal and Philly still on that list...with a strong possibility that the Caps are poised to make a move. Forsberg's Sweden just lost to Russia in the Tournament and we were told that a Foppa decision would come after the tourney. Anytime now Foppa.

The Thrashers are talking turkey with the Hawks about Patrick Sharp. It is getting much more serious according to my sources than I thought it would be this early in the year.

Marty Biron could VERY soon be headed back to Buffalo with Rick DiPietro closer than anyone knows to returning...Biron also has interest from Detroit and Atlanta. I would also look to Chicago here as well. Biron has played well in NY but has serious value for the Isles right now and there is no point in keeping three goalies.
