I have been sidetracked from getting out my Eastern Conference Preview (now to appear tomorrow AM) because of the many strange waivers and AHL assignments of today...should have seen it coming but it ALWAYS leads to an increase in activity on the rumor mill...
Waiver Rumors...
Besides Avery...The Ranger's d-man Stu Bickel (who was in my crazy prediction blog yesterday) was put on waivers today. THAT is a shocker and tomorrow it will be very interesting to see if he is claimed. If Bickel isn't claimed there is something much bigger going on, because as of a week ago players were raving about Bickel. The Rangers ALSO put B-man Brendan Bell on waivers. In the Atlantic the Rangers D will need the toughness of Bickel, so if he clears he could still be playing in the opener I am told. Very Risky.
Vancouver put Victor Oreskovich on waivers, carter claiming Dale Weise off waivers from the Rangers. The Canucks love him
As our own Bill Meltzer reported, the Flyers placed Blair Betts, Oskars Bartulis and Matt Walker on waivers...2 could be claimed tomorrow.
The Flyers also sent Braydon Schenn to the AHL today...a cap move until something else is worked out.
The Islanders made a strong signing bringing in Jay Pandolfo...but the Isles are far from complete.
The Leafs have acquired David Steckel from the Devils...and the Leafs are not done
On Turris...
It was all quiet on the Turris front until about an hour ago....
The big question out there is exactly how much does Turris want REALLY? In other words is the big number the Coyotes aren't even willing to negotiate off of just out there as Turris' way of saying "move me." A source recently told me the coaching staff in Phoenix weren't huge Turris or Viktor Tikhonov fans. The Coyotes have signed Viktor Tikhonov for a one-year deal, but there are also several rumors he is on his way out as well.

Now, it appears to teams are trying to get permission to find out what Turris would want to sign with them. One team in the east (and yes it may be the Leafs, no denial, no confirmation) and 1 team from the Central division....I believe to be Detroit.
I will continue to track this tonight....throughout the evening.
