Here's what you need to know from last night and a preview of what's to come today...

Crosby Ties The Rocket.

Last night Sidney Crosby recorded his 965th point tying Maurice Richard for 90th on the all-time list. How is it possible that Crosby almost has 1,000 points?!?! The amazing thing about Sid is he has missed a lot time with injuries and had he been healthy he'd be well over 1,000. The even more amazing thing about Sid is he has shown that he is still on the climb and playing some of his best hockey...

Has Sidney Crosby passed his prime or is he still getting better?
In the World Cup of hockey this past summer I felt like I was watching the best hockey I've ever seen from Sidney Crosby and the most dominant player I've seen since Mario.

Jags Pulls within 6 of Messier for #2.

Ok, so he is still almost 1,000 points behind Wayne, but Jaromir Jagr continues to not only defy logic and play very valuable minutes, but he is almost a player coach in Florida at this point. The value he brings to the Panthers is unmistakable and his passion and love the game continues to be contagious.

How many more years could Jagr play?
The Panthers are pretty much made it known as long as he wants to play he's going to play. It will be interesting to see how long he really wants to go though...

Nolan Patrick NOT Cleared for World Juniors.

Nolan Patrick, who many believe to be the number one pick in next year's Draft, has not been given medical clearance to play for Canada in the World Juniors. This is a big blow for Canada and Patrick, who has suffered a frustrating season at the worst possible time in his career.

Do injuries push Patrick out of the number one spot?
At this point it is still too early to tell, but we don't have to go many more months before this question will become a very serious issue. While the jury is still out, most don't see Nolan Patrick as a generational player, like Auston Matthews or Connor McDavid... And whoever picks first needs to be sure they're getting a Healthy player. Patrick will have to come back and once again prove his dominance for an extended period time to maintain his number one standing.

Other people's rumors...

Mark Zwolinski in the Toronto Star has an article stating that JVR and Nylander have been topics of trade talk lately and Mike Babcock is trying to reassure his players not to worry.
JVR and Nylander Rumors in Toronto

What I've Heard...
I have not heard a thing about Nylander from anyone I trust. In fact I've heard it the other way. The Leafs feel lucky that they found a player who as such great chemistry with their superstar, Matthews. And they should feel that way. Have we not learned anything from Crosby, McDavid, Stamkos, Tavares, etc...... It isn't easy to find players who can play with and complement great players. I have heard a little bit more when it comes to JVR, but more coming from teams who are interested in him and trying to find out if he's available. If I'm Toronto I hold on both players and keep moving forward.

What I am working on for today...

In my upcoming blog, in the noon hour, I will unveil the number one player in my top 15 available rentals. Any guesses?

I continue to talk to people regarding Shane Doan, and I continue to hear Montréal. There are also several rumblings coming out of Los Angeles, and when people start waking up out there I will touch base... I will hopefully have an update around the time of the podcast on LA.... Who I believe is talking mostly with the Islanders.

good morning and more to come..
