This one is getting really fascinating. I received a text today saying, "The next few games could go a long way to determining if Galchenyuk can really make it in Montreal or if they decide to include him in a swap for Matt Duchene." I called this source, and the gist was Alex has been moved from center to wing and back many times, and has to show he can be a number 1 guy or the Canadiens could swap him for Matt Duchene, who many believe is a bonafide #1.
Claude Giroux not Available...
There have been a series of reports out there that the Flyers are considering moving Claude Giroux so I did some digging with my sources and this is simply not the case. Claude Giroux is struggling right now, but also may not be playing at 100%...and either way Giroux isn't going anywhere...

I am hearing that Sami Vatanan may be a key component in this deal, but according to my source "don't discount the Ducks at all."..while the Avs would rather move the player to the East there are certain players that intrigued them..
Vegas Closing around March 1 Doesn't Affect the Trade Deadline...
There have been some questions out there about if Vegas will get involved with the deadline should they make their payment early. I asked a high ranking source at the NHL and was told the following.."No. They hope closing is on or around March 1, but Trade Deadline is pretty much irrelevant to them. The types of deals they can do can be done before or after the deadline."
Essentially, you need to remember what the trade deadline is... You can still trade after the deadline, but any new player won't be eligible for the playoffs...Since the Golden Knights aren't in the NHL yet, this year's playoffs are moot.
In fact, you can fully expect trade rumors to continue after the deadline and in the playoffs as teams will begin to trade with Vegas and each other as they try to protect players... That will be a big focus here at hockeybuzz following the deadline, and especially heading into the playoffs and beyond...There is going to be a science to the "Protection Game" and I have already put in tons of hours to that end.
