It's like the return of the swallows...
A few days ago Toronto rumors swirled stating how they may stand pat. Today, Ottawa, and St. Louis come out publicly and say they are not likely to make a move...Ottawa adding the price of a prospect and a pick are too high... If this doesn't feel like déjà vu to you...well you must be new around these here parts...
As I wrote a few days ago (or was it yesterday) this is the season of commerce and with commerce comes price haggling and as anyone who has ever bought a car knows...you have to be able to walk away to get the best price.
It is almost comical really. These GMs know this game really well, and in the twitter world of fast traveling news they are definitely learning how to play the system. Yesterday I wrote how we were in a stand still of sorts due to prices being high. It's one thing when insiders are talking about this to each other, but when the prices are suddenly published by a GM through a beat writer on the Internet...it's about gaming. Clear and simply remember: In this important last push to improve your team anything we said "on the record" is said loud and clear with the clear intention of being heard by the price setters...

*it is important to note that while the asking price in question is the price of a star player, there are plenty of role players available for less. However, it is also true those players prices can tend to be set by what the big players actually bring in. As an aside, history has shown more often than not that the role players acquired in February tend to have more of an impact..
*Today has definitely been a day of cat and mouse so far. The one clear rumor to report on is the Blue Jackets talking to Calgary...about what really appears to be Jeff Carter.
*Bryan Murray's statement that the asking price is a top prospect and a pick was interesting in terms of that is the asking price for some key players like Semin, Carter, and Parise, etc.. Asking around, I believe the only player at this asking price at all tied to Ottawa in rumors, albeit not very strong rumors, is Parise...
