Yesterday was fascinating. While it may have been a little boring from the outside looking in due to the lack of deals, what was happening behind the scenes was anything but boring and will in many ways forge the rumors during the freeze and lead us into an amazing deadline....

Yesterday was a dress rehearsal for many teams with the key players all sitting back and watching. The key sellers, Edmonton, Carolina, Toronto, Florida, and the Blues willing to wait for the better prices post freeze.

On Montreal...

The Canadiens are not getting Frolov. Not yet at least. The rumors won't quit however. But they were extremely active yesterday in trying to make something happen. They are in on several players I am told, and had some serious talk with Florida, St. Louis, Carolina, Phoenix and Edmonton.

The Habs are interested in Horton, Booth, Andy McDonald (who the Blues also talked to the LA Kings about), Tuomo Ruutu, Whitney, Peter Mueller, and Ethan Moreau.

However, the number one target appears to be Cogliano, who I am told is "highly likely" to be a Hab by March 3.

Will Price be moved? One source said his name did come up in at least one deal discussed last week.

On Whitney....

Boston and Buffalo tried to make deals for Whitney as well, but at the end of the day Carolina can wait.

On Chris Mason...

It came out last week Steve Mason was the reserve for Team Canada, I can 100% confirm that Blues goalie Chris Mason was asked as well to fill out all the needed paperwork, to be prepared, and he must inform Yzerman as to his whereabouts during the Olympics.

I will have more today shortly on the NY Rangers, LA Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames, and Minnesota Wild.

On the Olympics....

I arrive in Vancouver early Tuesday morning. I can't wait to take in the scene. I will have all sorts of reports for you all as well as some streaming video from the scene, interviews, etc. and of course I will be able to get more and more information regarding the coming trade deadline as I meet with sources in Vancouver.
